Learn about Motion Detection

The camera looks for changes using image identification, such as someone walking into view. So it knows how to filter out mundane activities and send you notifications that matter.

eufy Motion Detection algorithms come with the camera without cloud-based service to keep your data private and secure. When recording with the camera, our local Motion Detection algorithms search for various kinds of activities.

The software tries to ignore false positives so only meaningful alerts are sent to you. For advanced algorithms to fine-tune Motion Detection, watch for updates to these features:

  1. Activity Zones:The Detection Zone feature allows you to define a specific area that you want to detect motion in. After setting an activity zone, you will only be notified of motion that occurs in that area.
  2. Setting Up Sensitivity
  • The default sensitivity level is 3, detecting people only. If the system cannot detect people, turn up the sensitivity level. If you want to monitor other motions, select the type you want to monitor.
  • If the system has detected too many false alarms, turn down the sensitivity.
  • If there are still too many false alarms, set activity zones to filter unnecessary motions.

Why isn't my camera detecting motion?

  1. Make sure the area you want to detect is within the camera viewing area of less than 26 ft (8 m) away. Test Motion Detection in the eufy Security app by going to My Devices > Selct Camera > Camera Settings > Motion Detection. Make sure you have also enabled Motion Detection in your camera settings.
  2. Turn up the sensitivity level.
  3. Enable Video Recording and Push Notifications in your chosen security mode. Access this via Security > Home/Away > Home/Away Settings > Video Record & Push Notifications.
  1. Remove the camera from the app and add it again.

What is the detection range of the motion sensor?

It depends on the mounting height and angle. The camera can detect objects moving as far as 25-30 ft (8-10 m) away.

Detection performance varies depending on the scenario. You can always send us feedback to help us update and refine detection over time.
